Now, most of you would have already known Dato’ Sri Azmi from your work meetings or you might have come across him while waiting for the elevator, but have you ever wondered what it takes to be the CEO of a company? Dato’ Sri Azmi Abdul Aziz brings with him over 33 years of experience in the public and private sectors in the public transport industry with outstanding intellect that encompasses policies and operations of public transport systems and services. Playing a pivotal role in the development of Kuala Lumpur’s first Light Rail System in the mid 1990’s, he was responsible for many invaluable contributions such as the establishment of the Operations & Maintenance to operate and maintain the LRT system, the then first fully automated driverless metro system in the world. From there, Dato’ Sri Azmi moved on to become the Chief Operating Officer of SCOMI Engineering Berhad, serving as Project Director for India’s first monorail project in Mumbai.

In 2011, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azmi served as Chief Development Officer at the Land Public Transport Commission (S.P.A.D.) formulating the National Land Public Transport Masterplan, setting up of Transport Policies, planning and supervising the MRT Line 1, planning for MRT Line 2, and played an essential and active role in the task force together with Singapore for the formulation of the proposed High Speed Rail project from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore.

From 2015 to the end of 2017, YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azmi was appointed as President & Chief Executive Officer of Prasarana Malaysia Berhad, Malaysia’s premier public transport provider with Prasarana’s primary role as an integrated public transport provider for intra-city rail and bus services.

Among the awards and achievements honoured to YBhg. Dato’ Sri Azmi during his tenure in Prasarana were; the Award For Outstanding Achievement at the Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Award (2015); Award For Industrial Excellence in Public Transportation Industry at the Utusan Business Awards (2016); Prime Ministers’ Award – Tokoh Mahir for Year 2016 and the Award For Leadership Excellence in Public Transportation at the Global Leadership Awards (2017).
