On Monday (February 6), a strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria. It is among the worst disasters in history which has claimed tens of thousands of lives, while leaving millions of citizens in dire need of humanitarian and economic aid to slowly recover from this tragedy.

On the national front, the Malaysian government has sent two SMART (Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance Rescue Team) rescue teams and built a field hospital in Turkey. In addition, Malaysia has also committed to channel monetary donations to earthquake victims via the Disaster Fund of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, contributed by the government as well as business communities in Malaysia.

Guided by our core values and in effort to do our part in rebuilding a friendly nation to Malaysia, YTL Corp Bhd contributed RM2 million to the Disaster Fund, commemorated at a disaster fund donation ceremony by private companies in Putrajaya on February 14.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals, families and nations impacted by this devastating incident, and we hope for only the best in their recovery to socioeconomic stability.
