On 16th November, outstanding record holders gathered from all over the globe to celebrate the 19th Guinness World Records Day. As we reflect on this global celebration of extraordinary achievements, it resonates with the spirit that drives us here at YTL.

We’re all about our core values and key beliefs that inspire us to give our best, whether at work or play. Our expertise at YTL Construction shines through in civil engineering, demonstrated by the groundbreaking achievement of constructing a gas-fired combined cycle power plant in just 22 months, setting a world record at the time. But that’s not all – we’ve also successfully built a state-of-the-art cement plant boasting an impressive 1.2 million tonne per annum capacity!

So, get ready to have your mind blown as we dive into the extraordinary world of individuals and teams smashing world records:

1. Tightest gap driven through by a pickup truck on 2 wheels

Right inside the pulsating heart of British Formula 1, just outside of London, UK – audacious stunt driver Paul Swift was able to squeeze an impressive pick-up truck into a tiny gap of just 88cm (roughly the width of a standard office desk). The record was already challenging due to the vehicle’s size and suspension but the windy day made it even more difficult.

2. Highest backflip pogo stick jump

Xpogo (an action sport which involves riding and performing tricks on extreme pogo sticks) members Henry Cabelus and Michael Mena went head-to-head to achieve the record title for the highest backflip pogo stick jump.

Henry and Michael battled to break the existing record title, which had stood at 2.82 m (9 ft 3 in) since 2012. In the end, it was Henry who came out victorious as he performed the stunt at a height of 3.07 m (10 ft 1 in).

3. Most consecutive Double Dutch-style handstand skips (team of two)

The amazing Double Dutch duo Nene Kaneko and Masakazu Hashimoto successfully achieved the most consecutive Double Dutch-style handstand skips by two people with an outstanding total of 31.

Masakazu, under the moniker “Masa,” is one of the six members of Capliore – a team of professional Double Dutch players and Cirque du Soleil artists. Masa was also one of Nene’s Double Dutch instructors, making the achievement even more emotional for them.

Here are more records broken around the world:

4. Fastest time to flip three water bottles: Rocco Mercurio (Italy) – 0.97 seconds

5. Fastest time to bounce a ping pong ball into five cups: David Rush and Jonathan Hannon (US) – 1.50 seconds

6. Most candles extinguished with a single nunchaku strike while blindfolded: Chirag Lukha (UK) – 28

7. Most can drinks crushed with elbow in one minute: Jens Gaude (Germany) – 120

8. Most Hula hoop rotations around the neck on a balance board in one minute: Aadhav Sugumar (India) – 153

9. Most consecutive single-leg full twist back somersaults: Zhou Quan (China) – 11

10. Fastest mile dribbling a basketball: Christian Lopez Rodriguez (Spain) – 4 min 23.32

As we conclude this journey into the world of record-breaking, remember that greatness is not reserved for a select few—it’s a pursuit for anyone willing to embrace the challenge.

Whether it’s constructing groundbreaking structures or setting personal milestones, the spirit of pushing beyond limits defines us at YTL. As Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief for Guinness World Records, wisely puts it, ‘It might be challenging, it might be difficult, but have a go at it anyway.’ So, let these records inspire you to embark on your own path of excellence, fuelled by passion, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of being the absolute best at what you do!
