‘Should a train travel through the already vulnerable track, the repercussion[s] would have been catastrophic and the loss of lives would have been inevitable.’ – a comment written by a colleague nominating a future BTRT winner.

It is no secret that YTL is one of the biggest conglomerates in the region, operating across various fields of service. With a company of such scale comes a breadth of individuals that keep the cogs of the machinery well-oiled, ensuring its operation. It is easy for individual narratives to get lost in a mass tapestry of operations. That is where the Building the Right Thing Awards — BTRT Awards — fills the gap.

The BTRT Awards was founded in 2016 to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions to both the company, as well as those around them, on a more centralised platform. Recognitions and awards, prior to the establishment of the BTRT Awards, were given out in a decentralised fashion.

Such a shift offers a clearer sense of how the core values of the company are fleshed out and conducted in practice, across different parts of YTL. The Awards are, in fact, a way of focusing on the heart of the matter: people, supporting other people. A celebration of people and their achievements. Moving in that direction, nominations are made by colleagues and peers, who offer detailed commentary on their chosen nominee(s).

The Awards also encourage healthy competition, with nominees and winners from various departments.

Over the years, stories of courage, friendship and longevity have been recorded and archived. These threads constitute the broader narrative of the Company itself, one that is only as strong as its staff. Winners have been heralded for life-saving actions, small gestures and more. This year, we will be sharing a series of interviews with last year’s winners, where they discuss what it means to be a BTRT winner. If anyone comes to mind immediately, nominate a colleague or department for an award today! Deadline: 15th September 2021, 11.59pm.
