Unlike the classic business-look, smart casual is somewhat an ambiguous dress code that calls for a polished yet relaxed look. This dress code is versatile and offers more flexibility in your dressing while still appearing professional. This look focuses more on less-structured pieces that pay homage to the office attire.  More offices are opting for this dress code, it’s professional and provides a very comfortable atmosphere for people to work in – as long as you don’t focus on the casual aspect.

Here’s a helpful guide to put a spin on your workwear:

For the ladies, think dressy top, button-up shirts and if needed, put a blazer on for a more refined look. Match this with chinos, silk pants, a decent skirt or even a well-tailored, dark-wash denim jeans. You can also choose a one-piece garment such as dresses, collared shirt dresses and jumpsuits to ease your outfit selection. Spruce up the look by accessorizing with clean and delicate jewellery. Consider finishing your ensemble with a pointed low heel, comfortable flats or sneakers. However, do not pair sneakers with an outfit that is too casual as you don’t want to appear too dressed down.

As for the gents, go for a button-down or polo shirt and if your top is leaning towards a more casual look, put on a blazer or a well-fitted jacket over your shirt. Complement your choice of top with dress pants, chinos or a well-tailored, dark-wash jeans. Your shoe selection will either make or break your look, so our best recommendation would be a pair of derbies or loafers. And although sneakers are not advisable for this dress code, you can always opt for the sleek and classic style sneakers in white or black. Accessories are perfect to add a touch of personality to your outfit, elevate your look with a statement watch or bracelet.

Regardless of your gender, the rules apply the same for this dress code. You need to find the perfect balance between polished business clothes and mix it with a casual piece to nail this look. Now with all these tips, we hope you will take time to relook into your closet and spice up your outfit rotation!

Disclaimer: Although we support a more relaxed dress code, be mindful that we need to dress accordingly and appropriately when the occasion calls for a more professional appearance. Use that dress sense!
