Know Your Colleague: Norsalinda Abdul Jamid

Norsalinda, or more fondly known as Kak Linda, takes great pride in being a mother, wife and a friend to her colleagues. YTL Construction’s Senior Admin Executive, Kak Linda is a remarkable woman who knows how to find the perfect balance between work and family. Her dedication to work, family and love for cooking makes her life exciting and very fulfilling.

Her love for cooking is evident as she wakes up at three-thirty in the morning to prepare and cook for her family – and occasionally for her colleagues too. With that passion of hers, she is in charge of the F&B for her department’s internal gatherings. Some days she will make the arrangement to order food but if she has some extra time, she will even cook for the event. Can you imagine cooking Lontong for 30 people or make 100 pieces of Roti Sardin on a workday? I guess it’s true when they say not all heroes wear capes.

Kak Linda is exemplary in her unwavering commitment and passion towards her job. She leaves the house most days at six-thirty in the morning and gets home around nine in the evening, as she has to travel about over 30km to work. In spite of the distance, she’s been with YTL Construction for almost 22 years – true symbol of loyalty to the company. The work environment at YTL is a significant factor that makes her feel happy to come to work every day. In her own words, having a supportive boss and an inclusive work environment makes it easy to achieve a happy work-life balance.

When asked what does a typical work day in her life looks like, she explained with great passion about her tasks and added, “I never find it boring even though I have a very routine job to perform every day. I manage my tasks in a way to make sure it is never a dull day at work, and work on different tasks to keep things interesting.”

The love she has for her family and work is inspiring, and she sets an excellent example as to how to balance work and personal life. Despite her 9 to 5 job, Kak Linda is a devoted mother to her three children and doting grandmother to one grandchild. She values her family time and makes sure to dedicate her time for work and family.

Her husband, who works at YTL Cement, is supportive of her and takes the family out every weekend for some quality family time. Even when Kak Linda needs to run errands such as getting groceries for her cooking, her husband is always there to take her. With her husband’s support, Kak Linda has never felt like she is missing out on the important things in life.

From managing the home to being a working woman, we believe there are superwomen everywhere. In the spirit of celebrating women this month, we hope the empowering and resilient story of Kak Linda will inspire and encourage everyone out there to believe that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.
