5 June is World Environment Day (WED), and it has been every year since 1974. Don’t worry if you’ve never heard about it before, you’re in the majority. As of now, WED feels like the illegitimate step-child of Earth Day (22 April). Some of you might be rolling your eyes, thinking “just another over-enthusiastic-but-no-substance attempt to guilt-trip me about how I’m contributing to global warming”. WED forms a part of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) whose mission is to raise awareness and encourage actions that promote the preservation of the environment all over the world. So here are some facts to introduce you to World Environment Day:

  • WED’s official website: https://www.worldenvironmentday.global/
  • WED has a different theme every year. This year’s theme is biodiversity.
  • WED has a different host country every year. This year’s partnering hosts are Columbia and Germany.
  • WED has its own anthem called the “Earth Anthem”.

In accordance with this year’s theme, we’ve prepared a biodiversity quiz for you.
