Having a functional workspace is essential as your surroundings influence your productivity. Changing your work environment can be beneficial as this helps to boost stimulation and creativity and provide new ideas and perspectives. Your work environment also includes the atmosphere around you – the mood you feel at work and not just structural surroundings. Your ability to focus and stay efficient depends on how comfortable you feel in a space.

Enhancing your work environment optimizes your productivity and allows you to be more inspired at your job. Here are some ideas on how you can turn your work environment to be conducive:

  • Lighting: Natural lighting in an office environment has scientifically-proven benefits and it is said that people work best with natural sunlight

  • Seating: Even a perfect ergonomic set up isn’t comfortable to sit in all day, which is why occasionally moving things around is a good idea. For some people this means repositioning themselves to a more comfortable area, like a cozy chair or standing by a desk and taking this chance to stretch out.
  • Air Quality: We perform better in a less polluted environment. Air purifiers are a great way to remove allergens, other pollutants and make breathing easier.
  • Temperature: It has been proven that when it is too hot or cold it can adversely affect our work performance. For example, a work station positioned right under the ventilation ducts can be distracting. You can choose comfortable clothing that goes with the temperature.
  • Noise: The right level of sound can help with your concentration and creativity.
  • Organization: Get organized by arranging your documents and other stationeries with a desk organizer and if you want to work more efficiently, schedule your tasks on calendar software or apps.
