Every year at YTL, we roll out the red carpet of recognition for our dedicated colleagues through the highly coveted BTRT Awards. These awards are a testament to individuals within our YTL Family who truly embody our five core values: Honesty, Hard Work, Moral Responsibility, Togetherness, and Vitality. These values aren’t mere words; they’re a way of life for these exceptional folks, both within and beyond the workplace.

These fantastic five winners have gone the extra mile, proving that greatness is achievable for all of us. They are a true inspiration, setting the bar high for what can be accomplished when you live by our values. Let’s find out who are this year’s recipients for the prestigious Light Brick Trophy!

Joshua Lai Chee Hong, Data Center Solutions Director of YTL Construction (SPYTL)

Joshua Lai from YTL Construction has received a staggering 12 nominations for his visionary approach to transform the YTL Data Center into a model of environmentally conscious practices.

One of the nominations received had this to say: “He’s not just a leader; he’s a mentor, a guide, and a torchbearer for those around him. His journey from a professional to a revered mentor is a testament to his unwavering dedication and genuine desire to uplift those who cross his path. What sets him apart is not only his exceptional leadership but also his humility in extending a helping hand to all who seek it.”
Leading by example, this remarkable leader has fostered a culture of collaboration, creativity, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

Melisa Ann Sellvadurai, Head of Content & Production of YTL e-Solutions

Melisa Ann is an exceptional individual who has left an indelible mark on YTL e-Solutions. If you haven’t already heard of her, you’ll undoubtedly know someone who does or seen some of her team’s work on the big screens around Bukit Bintang. She is not just a familiar face; she’s nearly the embodiment of someone who is everywhere, all at once.

With over 15 years of unwavering dedication to YTL, she is the go-to person for getting things done. Whether it’s covering or organising events and interviews, unearthing old photos, footage, or news, updating website content, or producing videos, she is the first name that comes to mind. She’s the one you’d be advised to turn to, and if she can’t personally assist, which is highly unlikely, she’ll connect you with someone who can.

In her role as Head of Department, she is more than just a leader; she’s a steadfast guide who leads with kindness and empathy. Amidst any challenge, she remains a beacon of positivity, always on the lookout for the silver lining in every situation.

Shahrizan Bin Shahron, Contracts Manager of YTL Communications (YES)

Shahrizan’s consistent determination shines like a beacon. He’s the kind of guy who never stops, always going the extra mile, even on weekends, to ensure his work is nothing short of the best.

What truly sets him apart is his responsibility and accountability. Apart from excelling at his own work, he is also ever ready to assist a colleague in need. However, what truly makes him exceptional is his genuine approach and interactions with others, inspiring those around him to strive for excellence.

But that’s not all; he’s also known for his love of change and new ideas. His dedication to bringing fresh perspectives keeps our organisation’s creative spark burning brightly.

Sharon Law Wai San, Head of Finance Department at YTL Land

Sharon Law has been an integral part of the YTL Group for over 28 years. Throughout her impressive tenure, her remarkable capabilities have been instrumental in the growth and redevelopment of YTL Land, YTL Retail assets and YTL Hospitality REIT.

She’s not just good; she’s a wizard at creating smart business models for new ventures. Taking the lead in running the show for independent retail brands, she has led her team to the success and survival of the subsidiaries in her portfolio. And when things got tough during the COVID-19 crisis, she made sure our ship sailed smoothly, keeping cash flowing and our subsidiaries thriving. Talk about a real champ!

Known as someone who carries a “never say die” attitude for her department, she is truly a force to be reckoned with.

Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department of YTL Construction (SPYTL)

The HSE Department of YTL Construction, represented by 2023’s BTRT Award winner Ruslan Anwar Md Saleh, is a team that has showcased professionalism and a winning attitude, by going the extra mile to achieve tremendous success.

Back in 2014, this team was established as the EHS Unit under Operations but when YTL Construction secured the mega rail project in Johor, the Unit was upgraded to a full-fledged department, placed under the guidance of the Project Director Infra.

Facing safety challenges, the top management took a decisive step, hiring dedicated personnel to manage EHS matters. In January 2020, our very own Ruslan Anwar, who was last year’s BTRT Award winner, took the helm as the Head of this department. With his leadership and extensive experience, he formulated a three-year plan that made YTL Construction the top construction company for HSE in Malaysia.

When the pandemic hit, this incredible team managed COVID-19 issues across the company. They established a Business Continuity Plan and tirelessly conducted contact tracing. And as if that wasn’t impressive enough, they logged a whopping 22 million Safe Man Hours for the Gemas to JB project.

Cheers to all the deserving winners! Your accomplishments inspire us to keep Building the Right Thing. If you know someone deserving, nominations for 2024 are open now!
