Earth Hour is celebrated annually on the last Saturday of March as a symbol of unity and hope. It demonstrates the power of collective action for our future and that of the planet. This year, Earth Hour falls on 25 March 2023 at 8.30pm. Millions around the world gather during this special time when the lights-off event will once again be observed. This year, we are encouraged to also do anything positive for our planet.
Albeit being just 60 minutes, it creates the #BiggestHourForEarth. These 60 minutes will shine a global spotlight on climate change and nature loss, emphasising the urgent need for everyone to work together, empowering everyone to play a part, no matter how small.
Corporates vs Climate Change
In this age where climate change can no longer be ignored, it serves us well to understand its essential subtopics such as carbon emissions, air quality and greenhouse gases. Read here for a crash course on carbon terminology and the common buzzwords that pop up in this space.
Corporates hold a key role in the fight against climate change. They influence just about everything in our daily lives, and can push the world towards significant transition and change. One of the ways for organisations to reduce their carbon emissions is to measure and disclose them.
““You can’t manage what you don’t measure””
– Peter Drucker, world-famous management consultant
By measuring their emissions, organisations are able to identify the impacts of their operations, especially the hotspots where they may explore opportunities for collaboration with partners. By disclosing emissions, organisations can benchmark their performance whilst practicing transparency and accountability, plus help them to understand climate risks and opportunities. Watch the video below by GreenBiz for a brief explanation on measuring and disclosing emissions.
