The start of a new year is the perfect time to turn a new page and a great opportunity to change old habits and establish new routines in order to improve the quality of our lives.

A New Year’s resolution is a tradition for many and the idea of improving ourselves is inspiring. However, despite our good intentions and mindset to change for the better, more than half of resolutions often fail. But this year, we can change that. Here are some tips to help you achieve your goal, regardless of your resolution.

  1. Choosing a specific goal
Instead of having an ambiguous goal, focus on something more concrete and realistic.  Try to focus your energy on one subject. This helps you to plan exactly how you are going to accomplish and stick to your goal, which makes it more achievable.
  2. Create a Plan
Putting in extensive planning is essential to achieving any goal. You don’t have to outline every second, just get the plans and goals down so you have something to work on.
  3. Start with Small Steps
Be smart, start by taking small steps. Once it feels more manageable, take bolder steps and increase the speed. It may seem like a slow start but it has the likelihood of long-term success.
  4. Remember That Change is a Process and Celebrate the Small Wins
Be patient with yourself. Understand that working toward your resolution is a process. Be proud of your progress and how far you’ve come.
  5. Track Your Process
Track your progress so that you can see how far you’ve come and how far you’ve got to go.
  6. Re-visit your resolution and plan
Consistency is key and it may take some time to see the change. If something isn’t working for you then revisit the plan and re-evaluate your strategies or develop a new plan. Keep that inspiration alive by continuing to work on your goals, even after facing setbacks.

Making the right resolution together with a smart plan will help you to achieve your goal. Most importantly, you need to be flexible with your plan and stay positive by celebrating the progress that you make every single day. All the best with your list of SMART resolutions and Happy New Year!
