Clare Stanley

Site Engineer (M&E)

1. What is your job title?
I am a Site Engineer (M&E) for the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double Track project.

2. How long have you been working for YTL Construction?
I have been with YTL Construction since August 2018.

3. What sort of duties do you have at work?
My duties generally involve contracts and commercial matters, and also site work.

4. Where is the best place you have travelled to?
I would say Galaxidi. It’s a small local town located in the South of Greece.

5. If you could have change one thing about your life, what would it be?
There is nothing I would want to change for now. I’m enjoying my current journey in life and am trying to find my purpose in it. If I did change something, I guess I would not be the Clare Stanley I am today.

6. What’s your idea of a perfect day?
Waking up feeling motivated, being healthy, and productive at work is how I would classify a perfect day.

7. If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would you choose and why?
Below is a list of ladies who I consider to be strong and bold. I would choose to trade places with them to experience their life.

  • Queen Elizabeth II, the most powerful queen! The longest-reigning monarch in British history.
  • Kamala Harris, the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history. She is also the first African American and first Asian American vice president.
  • Christine Lagarde, a French lawyer and politician. She was the first woman to serve as France’s finance minister, and later became the managing director of the International Monetary Fund from 2011 to 2019. She now serves as president of the European Central Bank.
  • Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue magazine. She is one of the most powerful figures in the fashion industry.

8. Who do you look up to within the company?
From the men, the evergreen Mr. Kuan Sun Yew. His brain, IQ level, and humanity are things I adore. From the women, none other than Ms. Natasha Zulkifli. She is loud, clear and bold. I look up to her for being one of the leading females in the Malaysian rail industry.

9. What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
“When you get hit badly, by people who try their best to break you so that you quit, you must always be brave to stand up and fight for what you believe is yours.” These wise words were from my late grandma and I always hold onto them!

10. What led you to this career?
I love working on site-based projects. It doesn’t matter if it is difficult or what other people think. If that is what you would like to do, you should go for it. People’s opinions do not matter to you as they aren’t providing meals for you at the end of the day!
