YTL Construction takes pride in contributing to the communities around where we operate. This is because we believe in giving back to the places in which we live, work and raise our families. Santun Komuniti YTL is a recent campaign which we launched with the aim of establishing and creating strong relationships with the local community. Relationships which are based on mutual recognition and respect, trust and ultimately, the goal of improving the quality of life.

Santun Komuniti YTL focuses on our initiatives which are related to:

  1. Education
  2. Community Engagement
  3. Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR)

GJBEDTP School Safety Engagement

In the month of September, YTL Construction organised three school safety engagements with almost 300 primary school students from SJKT Jalan Haji Manan (Kluang), SJKT Ladang Lambak (Kulang), and SJKC Karas (Labis) virtually via Google Meet. These engagements were part of our effort to promote the importance of health and safety near the GJBEDTP construction site, especially amongst school children in Johor who are schooling near the alignment area.

In these sessions, our health and safety officers from Section 3, Suresh Kumar and Tan Wen Chien reminded the students of the importance of maintaining and prioritising their health and safety, whilst also explaining the meaning of common road signs displayed near the GJBEDTP construction sites. They emphasised how important it was for the school children to adhere to the instructions of road signs at all times. We ran a quick pop quiz at the end of each session to test the students’ understanding and were delighted to see how excited and engaged they were!

Arts and Crafts with the Less Fortunate

The Stakeholder department initiated a virtual arts and crafts program with the less fortunate beginning in August this year. To date, they have organised three virtual sessions with more than 50 orphanages and old folk’s centres in Johor and the Klang Valley area.

The first arts and crafts session was held in conjunction with Merdeka Day and organised for five amazing kids at Rumah Jagaan Grace Manna in Labis, Johor. To begin the session, the orphans were told exciting and unique historical facts about Labu Sayong and how it was used in the olden days. Then,  the fun arts and crafts began! As the Stakeholder team had sent the painting kits and the Labu Sayong ahead, they joined the children (virtually), painting alongside them for 40 minutes to stretch the orphans’ creative juices. At the end of the session, the children shared their designs and explained what each design meant to them.

In a similar engagement, the Stakeholder department organised an arts and crafts session in conjunction with Malaysia Day for more than 17 children of Rumah Kids on 15th September 2021. During the session, the Stakeholder department shared exciting facts on Malaysia Day and why it is celebrated every year. The children were asked to flaunt their creativity through a colouring activity that included the Malaysian flag and several other icons that symbolised our nation.

And just last week, another arts and crafts session was organised for more than 30 old folks at Grace Home in Klang. In this particular session, the elderlies were taught to design their own jewellery using beads and string that were sent to them in advance.

If you know of any orphanages and/or old folk’s centres that might be interested in our arts and crafts programmes, please contact Nina Jamil at [email protected] to nominate them!

Let’s reach out and put a smile on their faces.
